Sometimes called Virtual Reality or Immersive Photography, it can be defined as a panoramic image displayed in a viewer which lets you interactively pan around and look at it in different directions. The image should also change perspective so that you actually get the feeling of being there.
A collection of Panoramic Images presented using an Immersive Viewer with a means of navigation amongst these.
Yes, but because the images are presented using a combination of 'QuickTime' (giving compatibility with ALL Apple Macintosh computers) in combination-with either 'Flash VR' or 'JAVA' this means the images can be seen by the MAXIMUM number of visitors.
A few reasons:
By employing Noise Reduction techniques the quality of the image is enhanced & extraneous ‘picture artifacts’ are reduced.
Interior images show BOTH the inside & outside view (windows do not appear as a bright ‘blown-out’ area).
Because interior & exterior light is a different colour, adjustments are required to correct this & bring the image closer to what we see.
Why display pages in TWO formats ?
Panoramas presented using 'FlashVR' mean the MAXIMUM number of website visitors will be able to view the image, because over 95% of internet-users aleready have ‘Flash’ installed. Panoramas presnted using 'JAVA' offer an UNLIMITED 'Up & Down view' (sometimes called 'Field Of View'). The selection of this prestation format is automatic (requiring NO user input).
Why have QuickTime Only versions ?
A couple of reasons for this:
Because some of the panoramas are ‘cubic’ (you can look up & down as well as all around) & with 'Flash VR' only supporting the ‘cylindrical’ format & with 'LARGER JAVA' images displaying poorly on older machines, 'QuickTime' must be used.
The use of your computers resources (processor & memory) is more efficient with QuickTime. Also the larger the image, the more important this becomes. Consequently, a LARGE 'FlashVR or JAVA' panorama would only display correctly on a powerful computer….
A ‘thumbnail’ image is only used to illustrate the area of interest. Once selected, the viewer can simply choose the location from a ‘dropdown’ menu, elimanating the inconvenience of continually needing to re-visit the 'thumbnail' view.
How will my virtual tour be delivered ?
The images will be in BOTH ‘Apple QuickTime’ & either ‘Flash VR’ or 'JAVA' formats, with an ‘html’ webpage (including a webscript for automatic selection of the viewing format). This can initially be sent by e-mail, with a copy also provided on CD.
What system requirements are needed ?
All the ‘Java & FlashVR’ images are tested on a 500Mhz PC with 128Mb of RAM.
The ‘thumbnail’ images are around 20K (or less), whilst the ‘Virtual Tour Tour’ images are each around 300K.
